PhotoCraft FAQ

Before you start: browser availability, local file editing, analytics choices and the limits of this independent guide.

Explanation updated .

What is PhotoCraft?

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source image editor from ArtCraft for photos, graphics and layered documents. It includes layers, masks, editable text and color adjustments. It is separate from similarly named mobile apps.

Is this the official PhotoCraft website?

Try PhotoCraft is an independent third-party guide, not operated by or affiliated with ArtCraft. Downloads go to the official storytold/photocraft repository. Product previews come from that repository. Read about this site and its sources.

Can I try PhotoCraft in my browser?

The browser editor is available through the Try for Free link. It runs PhotoCraft 0.7.0, checked on 2026-10-13. Check availability, desktop requirements and recovery steps.

Is PhotoCraft free?

Reading this site and using its available browser experience are free and require no account. The upstream software is free and open source under MIT or Apache-2.0. Check the licence included with your chosen release; it does not cover this whole site.

What happens to my files?

Files are opened through the browser file picker or drag and drop. Editing uses the browser, and saving or exporting downloads a file to your device. This site has no image-upload service or cloud document storage. In the local candidate check of PhotoCraft 0.7.0 on 2026-10-13, Chrome and WebKit opened, edited and saved a self-made sample. That check was run before Google Analytics was added to the main site. Requests were limited to the main site and editor addresses, with no requests carrying a body. No file upload was observed in that journey. The production deployment has not been verified. This observation covers one sample and one pinned build, not every file, feature, browser extension or future version. Read the privacy and file-handling explanation.

Can I use it offline or recover unsaved work?

A network connection is needed to load the site and browser application. Offline startup and continued offline use have not been verified. There is no autosave or cloud backup. Save regularly, keep your original and reopen your last downloaded PSD if the tab closes or crashes. Desktop requirements are documented by the upstream project.

Can it replace Photoshop for my PSD files?

The upstream project describes layered PSD and PSB support and identifies PhotoCraft as early alpha. Compatibility depends on your file and its features. Our detailed compatibility review is still being prepared and is not published, so test a copy and keep the original. Check known software issues.

Where can I get help or report a problem?

For a PhotoCraft software bug, use the upstream Issues page with the version and a non-sensitive reproduction. A verified site-support contact has not been published; the upstream team does not handle this site's corrections or privacy requests. See the current contact gap and usage conditions.

Do I have to accept analytics?

No. Declining keeps reading, downloads and editing fully usable. File editing happens locally in the browser. Google Analytics receives page views and click events only after you explicitly accept; it does not receive your file contents. The choice is shared across tryphotocraft.com and editor.tryphotocraft.com. Use Analytics choices in the main-site footer to change it. Decline there to revoke: collection stops and this site's GA cookies are cleared. Read the privacy details.
