Privacy and file handling

How files are handled locally, what optional analytics sends to Google and how to change your choice.

Explanation updated .

Opening, editing and saving files

Files are opened through the browser file picker or drag and drop. Editing uses the browser, and saving or exporting downloads a file to your device. This site has no image-upload service or cloud document storage.

In the local candidate check of PhotoCraft 0.7.0 on 2026-10-13, Chrome and WebKit opened, edited and saved a self-made sample. That check was run before Google Analytics was added to the main site. Requests were limited to the main site and editor addresses, with no requests carrying a body. No file upload was observed in that journey.

Read the local data-check record for the package, method and limits.

The production deployment has not been verified. This observation covers one sample and one pinned build, not every file, feature, browser extension or future version.

There is no autosave or cloud backup. Save regularly, keep your original and reopen your last downloaded PSD if the tab closes or crashes.

Check browser editing availability and requirements before opening a file.

What still travels over the network

Reading the site downloads pages, scripts, styles, fonts and images. Opening the editor also downloads its application files from a separate address. A file processed in the browser does not make a visit anonymous or remove these requests.

A hosting provider receives connection information such as your IP address, requested URL and browser headers. The production hosting configuration and log retention period are not confirmed. This site cannot promise that no access logs are kept.

Official downloads, documentation and GitHub links take you to other services. Those services handle your visit under their own policies. Avoid putting private information in a URL.

Preferences on your device

The main site stores your light or dark appearance choice in localStorage as tryphotocraft.theme. Choosing System removes that saved choice. The editor stores preferences as photocraft.preferences at its own address. These settings are separate from your document and do not provide recovery for unsaved work.

You can remove these preferences through your browser's site-data controls. Your browser may also cache downloaded application files. Removing site data does not delete files you have saved to your device.

Accounts, cookies and tracking

Google Analytics loads only after you explicitly accept analytics. Until acceptance, neither the main site nor the editor loads the Google tag or sends Google Analytics requests. Declining keeps reading, downloads and editing fully usable.

After acceptance, behavioral metadata is sent to Google: page views, click events, cleaned page URLs and referral information, plus editor startup, classified errors and supported export actions. Google also receives device and browser information and approximate location derived from your IP address. Analytics events do not include your images, file contents, file names, layer names or canvas text. Local file editing and this visit metadata are separate data flows.

The tpc_analytics_consent cookie remembers Accept or Decline for one year. Your choice is shared across tryphotocraft.com and editor.tryphotocraft.com. After acceptance, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies including _ga and _ga_ cookies for visitor and session measurement.

Use Analytics choices in the main-site footer to change your choice anytime. Decline there to revoke consent: this stops collection and clears this site's GA cookies. Accepting again collects only current and later activity; actions taken while declined are not replayed. You can also remove saved choices through your browser's site-data controls.

This site has no accounts, payments, image uploads, advertising cookies or session replay. Font files and preview images are served from the site's own address.

Contact and remaining details

A site-operator contact and legal identity have not been published. Production logging, retention and the process for handling privacy requests still need to be confirmed before public release. Analytics retention settings and jurisdiction-specific privacy requirements, including those for EU and UK visitors, also need review. This page describes the current implementation; it has not received professional legal review.

See the contact gap. The upstream PhotoCraft Issues page is for software problems and is not a contact channel for this site's privacy requests.
